Day-to-day use: one page at a time, redoing a page, and keeping quality and costs under control.

Translate a page

Open the page, click Translate Site in the admin bar, choose the target language, pick a provider and click Translate page. The plugin translates every untranslated string the editor finds on that page, including menus, headings, buttons and image alt text that TranslatePress lists.

  • Identical strings are translated once and saved everywhere they appear.
  • Strings with no letters (numbers, symbols) or only links are skipped.
  • Very long strings (over 8,000 characters) are skipped.
  • Results are saved as machine translations. Edit any of them in the editor as usual.

If nothing is left to translate, the window says so and shows what it found: how many strings are untranslated, machine translated or edited by you.

Your edits are protected

By default only untranslated strings are sent. Strings you translated or edited yourself are never overwritten.

Redo a page

Tick Redo from scratch under the Translate page button to replace earlier machine translations on this page, for example after changing provider or glossary. Your own edits are still kept.

A second option, Also replace my own edits, replaces everything on the page. It asks for confirmation and cannot be undone.

To always replace earlier machine translations, tick Also replace earlier machine translations in the Settings tab.

Undo the last run

Click Undo last run under the Translate page button to put the strings back as they were before your last run or clear. Strings you edited by hand after that run are left as they are. One level of undo is kept for each user.

Clear machine translations

Click Clear machine translations on this page to remove the machine translations of the strings on the open page, for example before translating again with another provider. Strings you translated or edited yourself are kept, and you can undo the clear.

Run size and wrong script warnings

Before a large run the plugin shows about how many characters will be sent to the provider and asks you to confirm. After a run it warns when a translation looks like the wrong script (for example Latin instead of Cyrillic) or the wrong Chinese variant (Traditional or Simplified). The warning never blocks saving: use Undo last run and try another model or provider.

Every result is checked

Before saving, each translation is compared with the original. HTML tags, links, placeholders such as %s or {{name}}, shortcodes and encoded characters must be unchanged. If not, the string is sent again once with stricter instructions. If it still fails, it is left untranslated and the window explains why.

Tone and glossary

In Settings > MeloTools AI Translation > Settings:

  • About your site (tone and topic): for example "Friendly, concise, no slang. We sell garden furniture."
  • Words to keep as they are: one per line, for brand and product names.

Speed

Under Speed in the Settings tab:

  • Requests at the same time (1 to 3, default 2). Groq and Free basic always use 1.
  • Characters per request (default 5000). Lower it if a provider times out or hits limits.

If a run stops

Strings that were already translated are saved. Click Translate page again and it continues with what is left. If a provider is briefly busy, the plugin retries once automatically.

Control costs

Translate your most important pages first, and avoid redoing pages that have not changed. See Choose an AI provider and keep API costs low.
