Overview
What MeloTools AI Translation for TranslatePress does, who it is for, and how it works at a high level.
Version: 1.0.1Last updated
MeloTools AI Translation for TranslatePress adds a Translate page button to the TranslatePress visual editor. Pick a language, click once, and every untranslated string on the page is translated and saved into TranslatePress for you to review.
What it does
- Translates a whole page in one click, inside the TranslatePress editor you already use.
- Starts free: Free basic uses the translator built into Chrome and Edge on desktop, with no API key.
- For better quality, connect Claude (Anthropic), ChatGPT (OpenAI), Gemini (Google) or Groq with your own API key. You pay the provider directly; the plugin has no subscription.
- Translates only untranslated strings by default. Your own edits are never overwritten unless you explicitly choose that for a page.
- Checks every result before saving: HTML tags, links, placeholders and shortcodes must be unchanged, or the result is not saved.
Who it is for
- Site owners who use TranslatePress and want fast first drafts of translated pages.
- Agencies that want each client to use their own AI account and costs.
- Anyone who wants to try AI translation for free before choosing a paid provider.
How it works
- TranslatePress holds your languages and translated strings.
- When you click Translate page, the plugin collects the untranslated strings on that page.
- With Free basic, your browser translates them on your computer. With an AI provider, your WordPress server sends them to the provider using your key.
- Each result is checked, then saved as a machine translation in TranslatePress, where you can edit it as usual.
Nothing is sent anywhere until an administrator clicks Translate page or Test connection. Nothing is sent to MeloTools.
Requirements
- WordPress 6.5 or later and PHP 7.4 or later.
- TranslatePress with at least one extra language.
- For Free basic: Chrome or Edge on a desktop computer.
- For an AI provider: your own API key.
