Coverage tab (version 1.1.0, not released yet)
What the Coverage tab shows: untranslated pages and strings per language, changed sections, SEO length flags, and the planned Pro automation.
On this page
The Coverage tab shows how much of your site is translated, language by language, and which translations are out of date. It is planned for version 1.1.0, which is being tested and is not released yet. Everything in it is free and works by hand.
What "coverage" means
Coverage is the share of your site's text that already has a translation, compared with your default language. Use it to answer two questions: what is still missing, and what went stale after you edited a page.
The Coverage table
One row per TranslatePress language. Numbers are counted in the background, kept for six hours, and never counted while an admin page loads. Refresh all recounts every language.
- Pages with untranslated text: pages that still show text in your default language. "+ N site-wide" counts shared text such as the header and footer, which does not belong to one page.
- Strings not translated: pieces of text without a translation. "Saved as an unchanged copy" counts strings whose translation is the original text. Theme and plugin text is shown separately as "+ N theme and plugin text".
- Characters to translate: the size of the remaining work.
- Machine and By hand: how many strings already have a translation made by a machine, or edited and saved by a person.
- Free basic: how many were translated with Free basic, the no-key engine, and could be improved later with an AI key.
- Length: SEO titles and descriptions saved outside the length range (see below).
- Changed: sections whose original text was edited after they were translated.
Strings with no letters, or only a web address, are not counted. Pages opens the list of pages with untranslated text; each page has a link that opens it in the TranslatePress editor, where you translate one page at a time as before.
Changed sections
If you edit a sentence in your default language, the old translation no longer matches. The tab lists these under Changed since translated, showing the old text, the new text and the earlier translation. With an AI provider selected, Update changed sections translates only those sections and sends the earlier translation as a reference. Strings you edited by hand are never touched.
SEO titles and descriptions
From 1.1.0 the AI aims for the length of the original title or description, plus or minus 15%, and never more than 60 characters for a title or 160 for a description. A result outside that range is still saved, never dropped, and is flagged under Length.
What the plugin records
A small table records which engine and model translated each string. It contains no text and no keys, and it is removed when you delete the plugin.
Planned: automation (Pro)
We are considering a separate paid add-on that only automates the clicking: translating everything in the background, updating changed sections when you save a page, and showing how long a run will take within your AI provider's limits. It is not built yet and nothing is for sale. If you would use it, tell us which parts and what you think on the AI Translation Pro waitlist. Your answers decide whether we build it. The free plugin keeps working by hand either way.
