Short answers to common questions.

Is it free?

Yes. The plugin is free (GPLv2 or later). Free basic costs nothing. AI providers charge you directly for what you use; Gemini and Groq have free tiers with limits.

Do I need an account with MeloTools?

No. There is no MeloTools account, subscription or login, and the plugin sends nothing to MeloTools.

Which providers can I use?

Free basic (your browser), Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and Groq. See Providers.

Can I undo a run?

Yes. Undo last run restores the strings from before your last run or clear, and keeps anything you edited by hand since. See Translating pages.

Will it overwrite translations I edited myself?

No. Only untranslated strings are translated by default. Your edits are only replaced if you explicitly choose that for a page. See Translating pages.

Can I edit the translations afterwards?

Yes. They are saved as normal TranslatePress machine translations and you edit them in the TranslatePress editor.

Does it work with TranslatePress free and paid?

It works with the free TranslatePress plugin, which the paid editions also include. It has been tested with TranslatePress 3.3.

Which languages are supported?

Every language you add in TranslatePress. Quality depends on the provider and language pair.

Does it translate a whole site at once?

It translates one page at a time from the editor, which lets you review as you go. Strings shared between pages, such as menus, are translated once and reused.

Where are my API keys stored?

Encrypted in your own user profile, never sent to the browser. See Security.

What is sent to the AI provider?

Only the untranslated text of the page, the language names and your optional tone and glossary text, and only when you click Translate page or Test connection.

Can I use a local model such as Ollama?

On test sites, yes. See Free basic and local models.

Where do I get help?

The support forum or the contact page.
